Theater

I had no idea where this was. But then I noticed the lights on the side walls (they\'re made from bowling pins) and it lead me to beleive that this may be the bowling alley at the Cliff House.

I didn't know there was a theater at Wildmere. Was this a seperate building? Where exactly was it located? What happened to it?

The theater collapsed during a heavy spring snowstorm. The foundation remains directly between the garage and the cove divers use to enter the lake. The theater had been the Wildmere bowling alley – hence the lamps made from bowling pins.

The amateur productions by Nan Knickerbocker where unique in that they were read from the playbook after only one rehearsal – after all, we’re on vacation! Some were complex, most were simple – all were entertaining. Each player carried their book and read their lines. Some of us staff constantly filled in when guests were not available leading to some interesting casting. Fun for all!

The theater also had a complete Cinemascope projection system with two projectors. The film came in several reels that the projectionist changed a minimum of five times during a show. There were dots on the upper right of the picture: the first set gave you five seconds to prepare, you switched at the second set.

I remember one film where the reels were confused – and not by me – as we approached the fourth reel of the five-reel movie everything began to come together: the guy got the girl, the world was saved, etc. – I remember thinking, “Where does this go from here?” Then the credits began to roll. As people left the theater they were directly below me and I kept hearing them mutter, “That was really confusing, did you understand that?”
