misadventure at minnewaska?

Post by petercbenson »

I don't mean to be morbid, but with all the cliffs and the tempting emerald waters of the lake, there must have been numerous accidents over the years. Ever heard of any incidents?

While picnicing with my family at the Wildmere site this past weekend (lovely weather!), I overheard a gentleman relate one of this year's events: a solitary winter hiker who jumped off a boulder with a 6-foot drop and broke both of his ankles. He apparently had made a go of crawling back to the parking lot, until a group of hikers noticed his odd tracks in the snow and got an ambulance.

I've been hiking at Minnewaska every year since 1973. As far as I know there have been a few accidents but very few.
